PIQUA, Ohio -- A Miami County corrections officer and his brother were charged by Piqua police with allegedly offering and providing alcohol to Piqua High School band members during an alumni band activity at the Sept. 19 school football game.

Geremy Mullennix, 30, of Piqua, who has been on the sheriff's department jail staff since May 1999, and his brother, Chad Mullennix, 34, of Sidney, face one misdemeanor charge each of furnishing alcohol to a minor and attempted furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Charges are possible against a third person, also an alumni band member, police said Thursday, Oct. 9.

The charges filed Thursday in county Municipal Court follow a Piqua Police Department investigation into complaints alumni band members had been drinking before offering high school band members alcohol.

One band member, a 13-year-old boy, accepted a drink and "many more (students) were offered" but did not accept, Bruce Jamison, acting police chief, said. The student will not face any charges.

Jamison said the investigation showed the two allegedly had been drinking before they arrived at the stadium for the game and alumni band performance with the high school band. They allegedly also drank in the parking lot before taking a soda can with beer into the stadium.

Sheriff's Lt. Dave Duchak said department and jail administrators received a report on the charges Thursday and will review it. Once the review is complete, disciplinary action against Geremy Mullennix is likely in conjunction with an internal investigation.

"We are very disappointed in the alleged conduct," Duchak said.

More than 20 people were interviewed in the investigation.

Geremy and Chad Mullennix will receive a summons to court. An arraignment date was not available late Thursday.
