Virginia Police Officer Kill Ohio Man

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) -- Police in Portsmouth, Va., say an officer shot and killed an Ohio man who lunged at the officer with a knife.    

Police spokeswoman Ann Hope said 29-year-old Christopher Bacome of Toledo, Ohio, was killed Thursday night after officers responded to a call from an out-of-state family member who said he was suicidal.    

When officers arrived at an apartment, a witness told them Bacome locked himself inside a bathroom and that there was a lot of blood on the floor. Police say he refused orders to put down the knife when he came out of the bathroom and lunged at the officer, who shot him.    

The officer's name has not been released.
