05/13/2008 04:57:46

SPRINGBORO, Ohio -- David Ghysels was once a sports standout at Springboro High School, but he's now charged with rape.

Police received a call after a 16 year old girl was treated at a local hospital. That girl accuses Ghysels of raping her at North Park in Springboro on May 7th at around 10p.m. According to police reports and court documents Ghysels is accused of using "force or the threat of force" during the sexual assault. He was served a warrant and booked into the Lebanon Jail on Friday.

Ghysels was honored twice in high school as a Division 1 first-team catcher by the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association. He also played football during his high school career and took those talents to Minnesota where he played for Bemidji State University. He planned on transferring to the University of Dayton but is not currently enrolled.

If convicted Ghysels faces up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. He is being held on a $750,000 bond.
