Silverman Gets 30 Years in Prison

05/07/2008 15:25:40

DAYTON, Ohio-- Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Michael L. Tucker sentenced Heather Silverman to 15 years to life on both murder counts, which will run consecutively, meaning she will not be eligible for parole for 30 years.

The sentence was part of the plea agreement reached April 23, when Silverman pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and three counts of aggravated arson. Her arson sentences will be concurrent to the murder sentences.

On July 13, 2006 both children, Mikel, 4, and Keylee, 4 months, were burned to death in a fire at their West Carrollton home. Mikel, who had third-degree burns over much of his body, died two days after the fire and Keylee died at the scene.

Heather Silverman made a brief statement before the sentence was handed down, thanking the corrections officers and inmates at the Montgomery County Jail, her home for the past two years, and "everyone who has helped me through this." She added that she was "sorry this tragedy happened. I would take it back if I could."
