New Lebanon A Bellweather For Oval Office ?
03/24/2008 08:12:40
NEW LEBANON, Ohio -- The last four presidential elections show that one precinct in New Lebanon has an uncanny knack for mirroring the statewide vote, and therefore the presidency.
Since no candidate in recent history has won the presidency without winning Ohio, the Jackson-New Lebanon-B precinct and its 300 voters may be the truest bellwether vote that can be found.
If history is any guide, Hillary Rodham Clinton has a leg up. Clinton received more than twice as many precinct votes than any other candidate on March 4.
Montgomery County was one of just five Ohio counties that went for Barack Obama, but Jackson-New Lebanon-B backed Clinton by a greater margin than her statewide victory. John McCain got just 35 votes in the precinct's Republican primary, edging Mike Huckabee by four.
