SPRINGFIELD, Ohio-- A former contract employee of Clark County Job and Services was arrested Friday, May 9, for allegedly falsifying court documents in an attempt to fix the outcome of a protection order hearing last fall.
Ricky C. Smith, 30, of 2088 S. Center Blvd., was arrested on four counts of tampering with records and four counts of forgery, said Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly. Smith and his estranged girlfriend had been scheduled for a hearing last fall after the two filed order of protection petitions against each other, Kelly said.
Smith, who was employed at DJFS through the WorkPlus program, allegedly sent fake documents to the woman that indicated the hearing had been rescheduled when it had not. The woman's case was dismissed and Smith's upheld.
An employee at the Clark County Prosecutor's Office alerted the Sheriff's Office to the documents last October, Kelly said. "The documents didn't have a judge's signature," said Kelly.
Smith was arrested Friday by the U.S. Marshal's SOFAST task force, a multi-jurisdictional unit partnered by the Clark County Sheriff's Office and Springfield Police Division. Smith was in the Clark County Jail Monday afternoon on $30,000 bond, having pleaded not guilty to the charges Friday.
