Lights Out For Popular Greene County Outdoor Drama

XENIA, Ohio -- For the first time in nearly three decades, the outdoor drama "Blue Jacket" won't be presented in Greene County this summer. Today's dayton Daily News reports a deficit of more than $100,000 and flawed story line may be its undoing.
Board members for the nonprofit production company First Frontier Inc. will hold a retreat this Saturday to consider the future of the play they intend to revive as early as 2009. The paper says it will still focus on the Shawnee Indians, who lived and fought for their way of life in the Greene County region. But DNA tests now bring into question the status of the main character. He was not a white man who became an Indian war chief. He was all Shawnee.
Board President Jim Harworth, who spearheaded 11th-hour efforts to keep the show running in 2006 and 2007, says an all-new script will be written and hopefully presented to audiences next summer in 2009.
