GM Offers $200 Million To End Strike

05/09/2008 05:22:44

DAYTON, Ohio -- General Motors is offering up $200 million to help bring an end to the American Axle strike.

United Auto Workers have been in talks with the parts supplier for the past 10 weeks to resolve issues with the company's quest for lower wages and benefits. American Axle supplies crucial parts to many GM plants and the strike is starting to affect the auto makers bottom line. The millions being offered by General Motors would help buffer reduced wages for the workers, as well as employee buyouts and early retirement packages. Locally the strike has put 1800 workers off the job at the GM SUV plant in Moraine.
