Centerville Family Mourns Medic Killed In Iraq

03/24/2008 10:17:20

CENTERVILLE, Ohio -- An Ohio man has lost his son, an Army medic killed over the weekend by a roadside bomb in Iraq.

Military officials say Army National Guard Specialist David Stelmat and two other soldiers died Saturday when a bomb exploded near their Humvee. His father also is named David Stelmat and lives in Centerville, south of Dayton.

The elder Stelmat says all his son wanted to do was help people. In New Hampshire, Specialist Stelmat's mother says her son became a medic because he had a tough time dealing with the violence inherent in combat.
