65 Years for Dad in Abuse Case

05/09/2008 15:04:16

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -   A Springfield man will spend his next 65 years in prison for abusing and torturing his adopted children.

James Ferguson was convicted last month in Springfield of felonious assault, child endangerment and permitting child abuse in his treatment of five of his six adopted children.

Prosecutors say he hit his daughter's fingers with a hammer and threw one of his sons off a roof.

He faced up to 185 years in prison.

An attorney for Ferguson says his client disciplined the children, but didn't abuse them.

The children were removed from the home in 2004 and Ferguson and his wife surrendered custody in 2005. She goes on trial later this year.
