COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A former Buckeyes football player this weekend receives the Ohio State diploma he never got when he left the university for the NFL more than five years ago.
Mike Doss says football isn't forever. So, he took classes at Ohio State during the last three NFL offseasons and will graduate on Sunday.
He says he's more proud of getting his degree than he is of being an NFL draft pick or playing in the league.
The safety spent four seasons with the Buckeyes before withdrawing from classes after the 2002 season. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round and later played for the Minnesota Vikings as a free agent.
Doss says when he told Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel that he was graduating, Tressel was ecstatic and couldn't stop hugging him.
