Barack Obama And Stevie Wonder

Please don't tell my wife that I went to a Stevie Wonder concert last night, but that's who showed up to warm up the thousands and thousands who rallied in rain showers in downtown Indianapolis for Barack Obama.

It was yet another galling example of the differences in the Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama campaigns as she gets a couple hundred to show up for her at a firehouse and he gets probably twenty or thirty thousand for a nighttime rally.

How can the guy keep losing when he draws like a rock star?

As I drove over 600 miles the last two days across Indiana, I had a lot of time to ponder that question once again.

It was on my mind as I drove around Pennsylvania two weeks ago. Heck, Bill Clinton was even outdrawing Hillary in some places there.

The same thing was on my mind in Texas back in early March, when Obama was also getting big crowds and Hillary was poking along with a few hundred.

Does it mean the "silent Democratic majority" is simply in Hillary's corner and doesn't need to come out to see her? I don't know.

Like the Grinch, I've puzzled and puzzled until my puzzler is sore.

Back to the Indianapolis rally for Obama - the crowd clearly included a lot of True Believers and they are more than ready to go out and end this race now.

This is the fifth time by my count that Obama has had a chance to end this race. In New Hampshire, Hillary came back from the dead. They fought to a draw on Super Tuesday. She won Ohio and Texas on March 4th. She easily won in Pennsylvania.

Now he has the chance to knock her out with wins in both Indiana and North Carolina.

But there were some ominous signs from the Tar Heel State in late polling that showed the Obama edge getting smaller.

"Let me hear you say, Ba-rack, the next President," sang Stevie Wonder.

I would never have believed a few weeks ago that Hillary might have the better chance to win the Daily Double on May 6.

I still think it's unlikely. But this campaign has been unconventional from the start.

With apologies to Mr. Wonder, this race is not yet "signed, sealed and delivered."
