One Last Weekend in Pennsylvania
Both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will blanket the Keystone State all the way through Primary day on Tuesday April 22.
Obama started off by belittling the Wednesday night debate in Philadelphia, as Team Obama ridiculed the questions asked by ABC News.
"They like stirring up controversy and they like playing gotcha games, getting us to attack each other. And I have to say Senator Clinton looked in her element," Mr. Obama said.
That's the game plan right now of the Obama Camp, is to paint Hillary as part of the ole "politics as usual" problem and argue that to foster real change, you have to reject that 'down and dirty' kind of politics.
Obama spans the state of Pennsylvania today, as he starts in Erie, stops in Williamsport and then ends up in Philadelphia. That kind of schedule will be repeated all the way through Monday night.
As for Clinton, she actually splits her day between Pennsylvania and North Carolina. The Tar Heel State is one of two that vote on May 6th, the next stop for this race (no disrespect meant to Guam on May 3, but I doubt either candidate is going there.)
While Obama tried to shrug off his somewhat bland debate performance, he did win over two more superdelegates on Thursday, getting one from Oklahoma and one from Washington, D.C.
I would really like to see the exact delegate math at this point, because if he gets another 100 or so superdelegates, he might be on the verge of victory overall.
I've been getting a chuckle out of some of the minute details that you can get from the polls done in Pennsylvania, which show how thin you can slice the electorate if you want.
From the latest Rasmussen poll which showed Hillary up 9 points on Obama in PA comes this juicy Second Amendment morsel:
"Among voters from households where someone owns a gun, Clinton leads by seventeen points. Voters from other households are more evenly divided."
Okay, that's just plain crazy. The thought that Hillary Clinton would be +17 among gun owners is something you could never have made me believe a few months ago.
Then, there is this head-shaker related to illegal immigration:
"Sixty percent (60%) of Likely Democratic Primary voters in Pennsylvania say that it is Very Important for the government to enforce the borders and reduce illegal immigration. Among these voters, Clinton leads by sixteen."
While Hillary Clinton has said stuff like she's in favor of "securing the border," she's certainly not one of the 'get-tough' on illegals type of Senators. But she still wins those households by a very large margin.
Finally, we hear all kinds of stuff about how Hillary's negatives go up when she goes on the attack. But in the Rasmussen poll, the two candidates are basically even.
"Clinton is now viewed favorably by 74% of Likely Democratic Primary Voters, Obama by 72%."
Watch the polls this weekend and see if they bump one way or the other.
Then, fix yourself a drink and remind your friends that the polls have been way off at times in this race.
It won't surprise me if that gets repeated next week in Pennsylvania.
