University of Dayton men's basketball coach Brian Gregory has announced that assistant coach Anthony Solomon will leave the Flyers to return to the University of Notre Dame as an assistant coach. Solomon had previously coached at Notre Dame from 2000 to 2003 before serving as head coach at St. Bonaventure from 2003 to 2007.

"My experience at UD was tremendous," Solomon said. "It lived up to all that I knew it to be. I'm extremely grateful to coach Gregory for allowing me to be a part of such a successful, first-rate program. This season was a special one for me and my family."

"Getting ranked as high as 14th in the nation is something to always be proud of," Solomon continued, "but the way we did it – with quality coaches and quality young people coming together – made it even sweeter."

"I'm excited for Anthony and at the same time disappointed we're losing someone of his caliber," Gregory said. "He stepped in and made an immediate impact with our program last season. You couldn't ask for a better person to serve as a role model and mentor for young men. Not only are we losing a fine coach, but our community is losing a great family."

Solomon, 43, will re-join Mike Brey's staff at Notre Dame.

"A 'problem' with having such good people on your staff is that they are attractive to other people to fill openings they may have," Gregory said. "It says something about our program that we are able to bring quality coaches like Billy Schmidt, Jon Borovich and Anthony Solomon in to be part of the Flyer basketball program."

"I'm confident the next member of our staff will bring the same type of coaching knowledge and personal characteristics to UD, along with some fresh ideas and approaches to the game," Gregory concluded.

Dayton went 23-11 in 2007-08, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NIT, losing to eventual champion Ohio State in Columbus. The Flyers graduated All-Atlantic 10 guard Brian Roberts, but return their next three scorers and top three rebounders - forward Chris Wright (10.4, 5.7), guard Marcus Johnson (10.1, 5.1) and forward Charles Little (8.0, 4.6).
